5 steps to better worship projection:

There's an epidemic of bad worship projection in churches. Weird transitions, ugly fonts and cheesy graphics. Remember, just because your software can perform a snazzy trick doesn't mean you need to implement that trick into your worship service. A gimmicky slide transition can only distract from worship - something we don't want!

These 5 guidelines can help you create a professional and pleasing worship projection presentation. Once you have the simple basics down, then slowly start adding some razzle-dazzle.

1. Don't underline your song titles - it produces a cluttered look. Bold them instead, and make them a few points larger than your lyrics. (Let's say your lyrics are 40 points - try 50 points for the song title.).

2. Avoid the over-used Times Roman font. The sleeker Verdana or Arial (Helvetica) fonts (or something similar) are more modern and are on most computers. Never use decorative fonts for song lyrics.

boring good good terrible for lyrics

3. Use a similar background theme, texture and/or color to tie your entire worship service together - song lyrics and sermon.

4. Make your song lyrics flush left (lyrics line up at the left) not centered. Centered lyrics tire the eye as it has to search for the beginning of each new line. Think of newspapers and magazines - they all line up text at the left margin for easy reading.

centered lyrics = bad
Times Roman font = bad
underlined song title = bad
flush left lyrics = good
larger, bold song title = good
with touch of color = even better

5. Don't have too many lines of lyrics per slide. Bite-sized chunks of lyrics are easier to digest (aim for no more than 2 slides for each verse and chorus.)

too many lyrics better even better
By the way, notice how WorshipView song title slides can enhance your song lyrics!

6. Okay, one more. Use smooth transitions (also called dissolves) between slides if your software has this capability. Swirling, swooping and sliding lyrics are tacky. Think of television and film: movies dissolve between scenes, whereas used car commercials use swirling, swooping and sliding transitions.

smooth dissolve = classy gimmicky transition = tacky
